Sort of. But it's kind of the inverse of the usual problem. Things were a little different back then.

I had to cheat and help it along some.

I just tested my Mustang and Caravan today. When the knee didn't work, I just started hitting it real hard with my fist, and nope, nothing.

Chrysler will probably add the van to their own recall list tomorrow anyway, but this is a surprisingly hard problem to replicate.

I used to love that whole take the key out while the ar is running gag. I did that all the time in my 91 Civic. It genuinely freaked some people out.

Now THAT is the GM ignition switch that I know and love. No key? No problem, it will both run and start without one.

If only they had kept that ignition system.

I loved this feature on older GM's. Great for when you forgot that one thing in the house.

My brother's 1983 300D took it one step further. You could turn off the ignition off before taking the key out and the car would still run.

I have those same keys and ignition barrel-thing, just mine have plastic on them. They really did use those keys for a LONG time.

It's some vacuum gizmo leaking. My shop's resident old guy told me about it once a long time ago. I don't remember what it's called but I think it's on the injection pump. I've never had to work on one before, the old guy gets them all.

Yeah, it's some sort of valve that kills the engine once the ignition is turned off. They have a manual switch which he would just pop the hood and operate. You know it's the vacuum valve thingy when the door locks also start to have problems, as they all run off vacuum.

That's exactly right.
